The evolution of puppy ownership over the years

 Puppy ownership has changed over time in an interesting way that reflects societal views toward dogs and other pets in general. Dogs were primarily kept for practical reasons throughout much of human history, such as hunting, herding, or protecting property. Although some people undoubtedly developed strong emotional ties with their working dogs, it took a while for dogs to gain widespread acceptance as pets and cherished companions. Smaller dog breeds gained popularity in the early 20th century as more people migrated from rural to urban regions and into smaller houses or apartments. City people who sought a small, low-maintenance pet that could flourish in a small environment, such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians, which were originally designed as lap dogs for royalty, became popular with these breeds.
